What is membership? What do my membership dues pay for? These are some of the most frequent questions we hear at the Association. You may be thinking those exact things now. Please click through the association benefits listed below to find out how to get the most out of your membership dues.

When you join the Columbia Board of REALTORS®, you become a member of part of a 3-way network. Your dues are split between your local (CBOR), state (MR), and national (NAR) associations.

  • 3-Way Agreement
     The REALTOR® Organization is a federation, or in other words, a union of other organizations. It is comprised of member associations that are local and state associations of REALTORS®. The federation is formed by what is known as the “3-Way Agreement”, what that means is all local associations and its members are also members of the state association where their local Board is located. Members of local and state associations are automatically members of the National Association of REALTORS®.
  • What do Your CBOR Dues Pay for?
    • Risk Reduction
       CBOR provides contracts and forms essential for good business practice. These forms are only available to members of CBOR. State and Local forms can be accessed on the FlexMLS® Intranet and Instanet/TransactionDesk. 
    • Education
       CBOR offers a variety of avenues for education, these include: Sales & Marketing seminars, Designations & Certification classes, Ethics training, and Continuing Education for licensure. 
    • Networking
       In addition to education opportunities, CBOR offers a variety of networking events each year. In many instances, CBOR Affiliates sponsor these networking events to allow for one-on-one member interaction. Meeting and greeting with local Affiliates who are industry experts outside of the office is an important way to build good business relationships.
    • Membership News & Communication
       To limit clogging your email inbox, CBOR provides a weekly e-newsletter, The Weekly REAL Source to its members, sent out every Monday. This newsletter serves as the primary source of membership activity, upcoming events, and industry-related news. We strongly encourage you to take time each week and peruse The Weekly REAL Source so you can stay abreast on all CBOR news. As a new member, you will now begin to receive this newsletter via email, if you are not receiving it or have a different email address, please contact our Membership Services Director by calling 573-446-2407 or by emailing Rachel Davis at rachel@cbormls.com.
    • CBOR MLS Listserv
       CBOR offers a no-cost email listserv for its REALTOR® members. This listserv allows you to send and receive emails within the membership quickly and effectively, by typing cbor@gaggle.email in the “To” email address field. Members typically receive around 15 emails a day from this listserv. Emails range from real estate topics such as handyman recommendations, Open Houses and REALTOR® Agent Tours, as well as Buyer & Seller client requests. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to this email listserv by contacting a CBOR Staff member at any time.
    • CBOR Membership Email
      When CBOR Staff needs to send you an email about a topic that is time sensitive and cannot wait until the Monday newsletter; we will utilize our CBOR Membership email. Staff will do our best to limit the number of emails coming from this address, and will be used in situations where we need to get information quickly to our members. These emails are typically important and should be read at your convenience. If your email changes, please inform Rachel Davis at rachel@cbormls.com to update our Membership email database.
    • MLS Tour
       MLS Agent Tours are a great way to service your clients and your business. Agent tours are typically held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Agent Tours allow you to walk through homes on the market, within the time frame specified by the listing agent, and gather information for your current and potential clients. Many members find that showing a home they have already toured makes a first time client showing much easier and effective! Tours also give you the ability to meet and greet with other REALTOR® members you may not interact with on a daily basis.
      Agents hosting tours are welcome to post the tour time and date into Flexmls any time prior to Wednesday morning of that tour week.

    • Professional Standards
       CBOR recognizes the need for enforceable ethical standards governing the professional conduct of REALTORS®. To ensure this need is met at the local level, the Missouri REALTORS® handles all issues pertaining to Professional Standards for CBOR. Columbia Board of REALTORS® recognizes and appreciates REALTORS®’ obligations to their clients, customers, the public, and to each other, and it is important to contact The Missouri REALTORS® with any potential Code of Ethics violations.
    • Market Statistics
       On the 15th of each month, CBOR emails out the membership, as well as publishes onto cbormls.com, Market Statistics for distribution to your clients and to the public. These Market Statistics are broken down into the following categories, specifically from Boone County, Missouri:

    • Political Advocacy
       The Government Affairs Committee at CBOR monitors local legislation and regulatory policy on the impact it may have on private property rights, and the ability to freely buy, sell, and lease property. In addition to notifying the CBOR Membership, the Government Affairs Committee publicly engages with the Community by issuing Press Releases on City issues with potential legislative impacts to the Real Estate industry.

    • Legal Hotline
       The Legal Hotline is a members-only service benefit available to any Missouri REALTORS® member. Both Brokers and Agents have direct access to an experienced Real Estate attorney, who can provide information on a variety of real estate law topics.

    • The Landing
       The Landing is a professional networking and business information tool designed to connect members, affiliates, and staff of the Missouri REALTORS®. The Landing provides instant access to industry economic and REALTOR® Association news. It allows members to easily connect with other REALTORS®, provides a forum for accomplishing MR Committee and Governance work, and allows users to engage in online discussions.
    • Statewide Political Advocacy
       The Governmental Affairs Department at MR monitors, analyzes, and responds to state and federal legislation that affects the way members conduct their business across the state and nationwide. The department also assists members in planning and executing local political fundraising events for the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC).
    • Risk Reduction Toolkit
       The Risk Management Department at MR provides members with a variety of tools to avoid unnecessary business risks and effectively manage issues when they occur.
  • What do Your NAR Dues Pay for?
    • Digital
       NAR offers many digital outlets that include realtor.com, HouseLogic, Real Estate Today, REALTOR® Mag, and the REALTOR® Content Resource. Visit nar.realtor to learn more about these digital tools.
    • REALTOR® University
       Through REALTOR® University, NAR offers online continuing education courses including those for some of NAR’s most popular certifications & designations. NAR’s goal in offering these courses is to provide its members the tools and expertise to build their business and better serve their clients. You’ll also find new webinars every month on the hottest topics in real estate, with the ability to watch archived past webinars.
    • Conferences, Conventions, and Expo
       NAR offers the REALTORS® Conference and Expo every November and the REALTOR® Party Convention and Trade Expo every May in Washington D.C.
    • National Research Platform
       REALTORS® Property Resource (RPR) is a national research platform that is only available to REALTORS®. The RPR website & mobile app allows you to collect the data you need to meet the demands of your clients. RPR provides easy access to detailed property and market information; it is also included in your NAR Member dues, so there is no additional cost to you.     • Political Advocacy
       As America’s largest professional trade association, the National Association of REALTORS® actively protects the interests of its nearly 1 million members daily.
      From its building located steps away from the United States Capitol, NAR advocates for federal policy initiatives that strengthen the ability of Americans to own, buy and sell real property.        NAR offers multiple REALTOR® Party grants to local associations including: The Diversity Initiative Grant, Placemaking Micro-Grants, Housing Opportunity Program Grants, Smart Growth Action Grants, and more.
    • REALTOR® Health Insurance
       The REALTOR® Health Insurance Marketplace is an easy-to use one stop shopping site designed to help NAR members obtain health insurance that meets the mandates of the Affordable Care Act.
