Verizon Wireless to discontinue SMTP Mail Relay service

Abstract: If your cellular service for your air card or smart phone is provided by Verizon Wireless, you may be affected by this change. If your smart phone or laptop is configured to send e-mail out of Verizon Wireless' servers, you will be affected by this change and if you do not replace your outgoing server before August 29th, you will not be able to send out e-mail via your device.

Are you aware that Verizon Wireless has announced that they will discontinue their SMTP Mail Relay service as of Saturday, August 29th?

Who is affected by this change?

If your cellular service for your air card or smart phone is provided by Verizon Wireless, you may be affected by this change. If your smart phone or laptop is configured to send e-mail out of Verizon Wireless' servers, you will be affected by this change and if you do not replace your outgoing server before August 29th, you will not be able to send out e-mail via your device. To find out if you are using Verizon Wireless' outgoing server, check your e-mail settings within your wireless device. If your outgoing server says "Verizon", chances are you will not be able to send e-mail from this device after August 29th. If you don't know how to check your e-mail settings, contact Verizon Wireless directly. They'll be able assist you.

Note that this change will NOT affect users of Verizon DSL. Also, if you have BlackBerry service through Verizon Wireless, you are likely using special BlackBerry servers-if this is the case, you will not be affected by this change. Again, if you are unsure, it is best to check with the Tech Support at Verizon Wireless before August 29th. You can learn more about the service shut off, directly from the Verizon Wireless website at http://www.VerizonWireless.com/SMTP.

This may be a sign of the times, and it is possible that other wireless providers will stop providing this type of service as well. Your options for another provider could include your current e-mail host, your ISP, or any third party e-mail service provider. If you are a Verizon Wireless customer and will need to replace your outgoing server, InternetCrusade does offer multiple products that could suit your needs -- whether it is SMTP only or a fully hosted e-mail account. Call us toll-free at 1-866-377-0627 to discuss your needs and see what product might work best for you.

For a list of Frequently Asked Questions we've created regarding this change, send a blank e-mail to VerizonSMTP@InternetCrusade.com.
